I may or may not have met this U-2 pilot, but this article, this one and this, read them in order, illustrates just how much luck and skill it takes to do some of the things that are done in service of our country.

Miracles do happen...And, whether we know it or not, rarely used parts of our brain come into play when we physically, mentally, or emotionally are incapable of handling what we consider normal procedures. Go figure Who makes us this way! Not evolution! So tell me what?
An animal that hadn't evolved to possess rarely used parts of its brain would be unlikely to survive this situation. They'd be even less likely to find themselves in it as well. You answered your own question, really. You just don't want to admit it.
